When is the best time to travel to the Canary Islands?

If you want to escape the rains and low temperatures of winter in mainland Spain and northern Europe, the Canary Islands are the best destination.

However, depending on the type of tourism you want to do, one season or another is recommended. For example, in the case of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura you can enjoy the sun and the beach all year round. However, it is advisable to visit La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera between April and October.

If you like adventure and water sports and your preference is surfing, in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote the best time for beginners is from July to November, while for veterans it is from October to mid-December, as the swell is different depending on the seasonal period. Surfers can also enjoy the high waves of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, especially in the months of October and March. If you love windsurfing, the peculiar geography of the Canary archipelago allows you to find one of the most appreciated treasures for this practice: the terrestrial wind, a strong and constant wind coming from the land and with great propulsion. Another great ally of this sport in the Canary Islands are the trade winds, which blow with different intensities, allowing windsurfers who want to perfect their technique as well as those who want to get started to find the ideal spot.

Furthermore, if your preference is to hike the peaks of Mount Teide and experience the contrast between sea and mountain, we recommend the first months of the year and the autumn months.
